Position Summary:

This SIU Investigator position will be based in the greater Charleston, SC area (work from home).  This position will support both our Nashville,Chicago and Florida Regional Claims Offices (RCO’s) in conducting suspect personal lines auto claims fraud investigations primarily in our Georgia and South Carolina markets.  This position will have a combination of field investigations and desk investigations responsibilities depending upon the complexity, exposure and venue of the claim fraud investigation assigned.

We are principally a retailer, servicer and underwriter of non-standard personal automobile insurance based in Nashville, Tennessee. Our insurance operations actively generate revenues from selling non-standard personal automobile insurance policies and related products in 16 states. We currently conduct our servicing and underwriting operations in 13 states and are licensed as an insurer in 13 additional states.


At March 31, 2017, we leased and operated 355 retail locations and a call center staffed with employee-agents. Our employee agents primarily sell non-standard personal automobile insurance products underwritten by us, as well as certain commissionable ancillary products. In most states, our employee-agents also sell a complementary insurance product providing personal property and liability coverage for renters underwritten by us. In addition, retail locations in some markets offer non-standard personal automobile insurance serviced and underwritten by other third-party insurance carriers for which we receive a commission. In addition to our retail locations, we are able to complete the entire sales process over the phone via our call center or through the internet via our consumer-based website or mobile platform. On a limited basis, we also sell our products through selected retail locations operated by independent agents.

  • Investigate applicable personal lines automobile claims and assist the claims department in the resolution of suspicious claims.
  • Prepare and identify applicable files for Examinations Under Oath (EUO) and whenever possible attend the EUO.
  • Prepare and summarize EUO results and make recommendations to the claims department on the handling of the claim.
  • Conduct in person and over the phone recorded statements of insured’s and claimants as necessary in conjunction with plan of action on the file assigned.
  • Assist the claims department in the utilization of databases such as NICB, Accurint and Lexis-Nexis. 
  • Assist SIU management in providing claims fraud awareness training to the Regional Claims Office staff.
  • Assist the claims department and give guidance in the handling of questionable claims on a daily basis as needed.
  • Update the SIU Database to maintain a record of daily and monthly activity on all suspect claims investigated. 
  • Maintain active membership in professional organizations that provide SIU assistance and resources.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with law enforcement, Department of Insurance officials and insurance industry personnel and assist them when required.


  • The ideal candidate will have 5 + years of SIU and/or law enforcement investigative experience and/or 5 years of personal lines automobile claims handling/adjusting experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate personal lines automobile claim and policy information and other data sources for fraud indicators and analyze the data to detect fraud trends or red flags. 
  • Ability to interpret public record information systems and claims history in order to support the investigative process. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. 
  • Ability to develop and present fraud related training programs. 
  • Prior insurance fraud investigative experience or industry related designations (FCLS, CIFI, CFE) as well as a college degree are a plus.
  • Prior experience in conducting personal lines automobile SIU claims investigations is desired.
