Overview

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Specialist's primary responsibility is supporting the various Human Resources functions by providing human resources services and consultation to the company and select vendors. General HR services include: compliance regulations, leave administration, tuition reimbursement, separation notices, team member employment file creation and maintenance, benefits, unemployment, general training and other HR duties as assigned. The incumbent provides consultative direction on HR practices in specific situations, and coordinates and facilitates timely response to constituent needs, as appropriate. Assists with the implementation of strategic projects and initiatives.

Company Overview:

We are principally a retailer, servicer and underwriter of non-standard personal automobile insurance based in Nashville, Tennessee. Our insurance operations actively generate revenues from selling non-standard personal automobile insurance policies and related products in 16 states. We currently conduct our servicing and underwriting operations in 13 states and are licensed as an insurer in 13 additional states.

 

At March 31, 2017, we leased and operated 355 retail locations and a call center staffed with employee-agents. Our employee agents primarily sell non-standard personal automobile insurance products underwritten by us, as well as certain commissionable ancillary products. In most states, our employee-agents also sell a complementary insurance product providing personal property and liability coverage for renters underwritten by us. In addition, retail locations in some markets offer non-standard personal automobile insurance serviced and underwritten by other third-party insurance carriers for which we receive a commission. In addition to our retail locations, we are able to complete the entire sales process over the phone via our call center or through the internet via our consumer-based website or mobile platform. On a limited basis, we also sell our products through selected retail locations operated by independent agents.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes and reports information relating to employee headcount and turnover to determine controllable root causes and recommend practical recommendations to address “revolving door” situations.
  • Provides a range of generalist support and assists with problem resolution including, but not limited to, FMLA leaves, compliance with ADA, FLSA, and other related regulations and internal policies.
  • Performs all aspects of Human Resources for assigned organizational unit. Addresses day-to-day operational issues in assigned organizational unit.
  • Serves as initial point of advice, problem resolution, and facilitation in the areas of employee relations, performance management, benefits, leaves, tuition reimbursement and HRIS maintenance. Researches, identifies, and analyzes specific system concerns and makes appropriate recommendations to remedy issues.
  • In coordination with Finance/Payroll: audits the input of data (new hire, salary and status changes) into the payroll/human resources information system.
  • Assists in the development, design, and presentation of in-service and general training to organizational unit representatives with regards to general and specific human resources policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Monitors, verifies, and authorizes routine human resources actions and requests pertaining to existing employees and new hires, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Monitors the processing of unemployment benefit claims, including the submission of documentation, determination of contesting claims and decision appeal, preparation and participation in hearings as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
